Position Purpose/Objective
• Conduct and manage paint and applications work focused on architectural and deco paints, industrial wood, metal applications, OEM (20% of time)
• Help convert new and existing products into working formulations with customers. Visit customers to conduct Technical Service (20% of time)
• Conduct product application tests, competitive challenge tests in the lab (30% of time)
• Develop architectural, deco, industrial paint for wood, metal formulations (water based and solvent based) to suit existing and new products, customer requirements (10%)
• Conduct research on architectural and industrial paint, wood coatings, metal coatings (10% of time)
• Conduct troubleshooting for Quality problems/customer complaints for architectural/deco, industrial wood and metal segment (10%)
Major Accountabilities
• Conduct architectural, deco, industrial paint mixing and application tests, wood and metal coating application tests, benchmarking work for this segment
• Supervise, train and motivate Application Chemists to deliver agreed objectives
• Deco paint, wood/metal coating, formulation research and development work
• Conduct research and experiments for paints and coatings related projects
• Lead application projects for deco, industrial paints and coatings
• Visit customers to conduct technical service. Work at the customer labs if needed
• Replication and validation of application tests done by customers
• Major provider for technical hands on work and support for paints and coatings
• Assist sales staff, technical sales and business development manager for projects in terms of application tests and formulation modification for industrial segment
• Prepare technical recommendations to customer’s technical staff, decision makers
• Application work for all customer concerns.
• Conduct troubleshooting and formulation improvements for customer application issues and customer complaints
• Discuss technical details of polymer paint and coating formulations with Technical Manager, Technical Supervisor, Application Chemists and customer staff including raw materials and procedures
• To prepare clear and concise reports on activities, including monthly reports
• To follow Good Laboratory Techniques and Safe Operating Procedure.
• To perform any other duties as assigned from superior.
• To maintain lab cleanliness, implement 5S in technical department.
