English Teachers’ Assistants

Working time: Monday - Friday
Position Description
1. General responsibilities
• Take an active role in supporting the classroom teacher in the teaching and learning process of students that are assigned to the class.
2. Responsibilities to Pupils and Parents
• Assist in the enforcement of school policies and practices related to student behaviour and student instruction;
• Provide support to the classroom teacher in the testing and assessing of new pupils in concert with the Head Teacher and Primary Program Leader;
• Assist the classroom teacher in providing timely information to parents concerning curriculum and pastoral matters;
• Assist teacher in notifying parents concerning their child’s progress;
• Provide translation of documents and/or comments for parents, as requested by the classroom teacher;
3. Teaching and Learning
• Discuss, learn and support the classroom teacher’s classroom rules and management style;
• Assist the teacher in marking/grading student work as requested by the classroom teacher;
• Actively participate and/or assistant in the planning of lessons and its daily implementation with students;
• Work with small groups of students and/or one-on-one student support as requested by the classroom teacher.
• Support the classroom teacher in the preparation of instructional resources and/or manipulatives
• Provide the classroom teacher with suggestions and/or feedback concerning lesson ideas and classroom management;
• Communicate with the classroom teacher, throughout the day, regarding classroom management and lesson plan implementation;
• Participate in all instructional classroom activities;
4. Other tasks
• Participate in staff meetings, parents/teacher meetings, school trip, school activities as requested by the classroom teacher;
• Attend meetings or other functions outside of school hours as needed;
• Participate in on-going professional development;
• Ability to take charge of a class in an emergency situation;
• Undertake other tasks as and when assigned by the classroom teacher.
