The Senior Finance Manager is a key member of the local management team for all Cognita schools in Vietnam and is part of the Regional finance team. This role reports to the Managing Director of Cognita in Vietnam with a dotted line to the Cognita Asia CFO and supports the Head of Vietnam Schools with daily school finance operations.
The Senior Finance Manager performs a full range of finance duties, including but not limited to:
Financial performance management
1. Lead and manage all statutory and reporting requirements, budgeting and forecasting, cash-flow management and taxation for all schools and legal entities in Vietnam.
2. Responsible for all finance and accounting processes in Vietnam
3. Act as a business partner to Vietnam schools management teams and the Regional Management team
4. Ensure that appropriate internal controls, compliance procedures and corporate governance are in place for financial and operational processes. This includes identification and the implementation of new or changed finance processes and methods that can improve efficiency, accountability, control and visibility.
5. Provide accurate and timely financial information including pupil forecasting allowing Vietnam and Regional management to make informed, sound and financially based decisions. This includes providing weekly pupil forecast analysis and financial analysis to Vietnam school management teams
6. Mitigate and manage risk and financial exposure
7. Lead, manage, coach and develop the finance team (c. 20 people)
8. Ensure business strategy plans are based on sound financial basis and analysis and assist in ensuring strategy progression and tracking same
9. Handle treasury activities in liaison with the Regional office in Singapore
10. Investment appraisal, financial modelling and sensitivity analysis s
11. Assist with due diligence related to acquisitions in Vietnam and lead subsequent financial integration
12. Ad hoc analysis as required by the stakeholders.
Financial reporting, and financial planning & analysis
1. Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and Counsel, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
2. Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
3. Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
4. Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting, audit process (group, local) with external auditors.
5. Research technical accounting issues for compliance such as government and statutory reporting, annual accounts, VAT and Income Tax Filing and payroll information.
6. Support month-end and year-end close process, including optimal cash management.
7. Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
8. Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
9. Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
10. Ensure Accounting Department calendar deadlines are met.
11. Review general ledger account reconciliations, financial statements, including month end and year end closing, monthly funding requests
12. Review and approve recoverable expense billings and reconciliations, monthly bank reconciliations, monthly journal entries.
13. Establish and maintain open communication and interactions with all commercial, operational and other management staff in case of changes of processes as well as specific requests and issues.
14. Supervise finance / accounting staff developing annual objectives, succession planning and cross training (Performance Management System).
15. Participate in projects relevant for the processes in the Accounting department.
The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person’s for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer/Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of School so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third party services.

Education
• University degree
• Qualified accountant
Experience
• At least 5 years of experience as a Controller
• At least 8 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
• Experience with creating financial statements
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
• Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
Knowledge (acquired information necessary to do the job)
• Expertise in advanced finance and accounting practices (compiling, interpreting and/or providing consultation on financial and accounting related considerations for management analysis and decision making).

• Strong financial and analytical skills

• Computer literate with excellent Excel and strong accounting software skills.

• Ability to understand and apply fundamental accounting and bookkeeping principles and techniques, and to accurately prepare and analyze most financial records, reports and statements.
• Ability to understand and interpret information common to financial statements and balance sheets, administer and oversee the financial procedures and policies of an organization.
