Senior Completion Engineer

1. POSITION PURPOSE
Perform wellbore design, completion engineering, and related activities to support well planning on the Nam Du and U Minh field development project. Provide completion engineering expertise and advice to the wider JSE business, as directed.
2. BASIC FUNCTION
• Responsible for wellbore completion design and engineering on Nam Du / U Minh development wells
• Analyse tubing loads/stress and production performance to determine the minimum technical specifications
• Perform option screening of potential completion designs and select the optimum design(s) for the project
• Determine completion tubing and component metallurgy requirements
• Conduct a detailed assessment of the pros and cons of various monobore completion options, in particular cemented and perforated liner lower completion vs. cemented and perforated tubing completion
• Coordinate and lead a sanding assessment for Nam Du / U Minh wells working in close conjunction with the Subsurface Dept. and a 3rd party consultancy to determine the sanding risk and completion design options to mitigate the risk
• Determine the technical requirements, source suitable providers, negotiate and finalise the agreed work-scope and pricing, and oversee the work and close-out of completion engineering studies performed by 3rd party specialists
• Determine the completion design requirements to mitigate downhole flow assurance risks
• Prepare detailed well time/cost estimates for completions and well interventions to support project economic analysis
• Support the SCM Dept. during tendering activities for completions related equipment and services. E.g. prepare technical scopes of work and bidder lists, conduct bid technical evaluations, support bid commercial evaluations
• Provide support and input during wellhead and xmas tree design and technical specification
• Make site visits to rigs, service contractor offices and operating bases, and the platform construction yard as needed
• Participate in project meetings and workshops and make presentations on completion design progress to the wider project team, JSE management, PVN, and Vietnam Govt. Ministries as directed
• Support the HSE Dept. during preparation and approval of the project Environmental Impact Assessment
• Support and provide input during preparation of the Field Development Plan
• Provide technical input and support the preparation of completion operations programmes for offshore use
• Provide technical support to the onshore/offshore team during completion operations offshore
• Support HSE incident investigations as directed
• Member of the onshore Emergency Response Team during offshore operations
4. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Ensure the final completion designs fulfil all specified project needs and comply with the approved Wells Basis of Design
• Ensure completion designs comply with relevant industry and JSE technical standards
• Support and participate in project management processes such as interface meetings, HAZOPS, risk assessments, cost reduction initiatives, etc.
• Ensure that all completion design activities and technical reports are completed to the minimum required standard, meet all specified requirements, and are delivered on time
• Ensure well cost estimates and AFEs meet company and project specified requirements
• Promote, encourage, and demonstrate JSE values in all day-day work interactions internal and external to the company
• Demonstrate a professional, collaborative approach, show mutual respect, and promote effective teamwork when dealing with management, colleagues within drilling department and other disciplines, and external stakeholders
• Supervise, train, and develop completion engineers working in the Vietnam drilling department
• Promote information sharing, especially lessons learnt and best practices, related to completion design and engineering and well interventions within the drilling department, project team, JSE as a whole, and external stakeholders (e.g. PVN)
• Demonstrate a performance driven mind-set: share ideas, challenge norms, seek and apply lessons learnt, and focus on delivering HSE, budget, and operational performance improvements
• Engage with industry peer groups and the service sector to identify opportunities to further enhance the design and performance of completion designs to deliver added value to the project
• Provide regular status updates to the project management team on completion design activities. Identify and communicate any areas of concern along with recommended courses of action
