Position Summary
The Structural Engineer will interact with and provide design advice to the Company’s Construction Team on large scale projects. This will include liaising with international consultants.
The position is responsible for providing engineering designs to international design specifications and quality requirements, including ensuring delivery of projects on time and compliance with design and safety codes and regulations.
The Structural Engineer will assist with the management and development of the site based engineering team.

Key Accountabilities
• Work on site when required and work in the central office.
• Review and research new products.
• Review and analyze suitable configurations of the basic structural components of a building or other structure and make recommendations.
• Calculating pressures, stresses and strains that each component, such as beams, columns lintels, are likely to experience from other parts of the structure or from external pressures, such as wind or earthquake.
• Consider the strength of various materials eg timber, concrete, steel and brick, to evaluate how their inclusion may necessitate a change of structural design.
• Work with Sales Team and other internal Departments, obtaining data on customer requirements and/or suggestions and evaluating and recommending on the same.
• Ensure designs are cost effective, safe and in compliance with statutory regulations and codes.
• Improve and modify existing systems to meet current market trends.
• Supervise and liaise with external consultant engineering team’s, monitoring and controlling performance and quality of work.
• Supervise consultant quantity surveying teams, monitoring and controlling performance and quality of work.
• Liaise with other designers and external consultants, including architects, to reach agreement about safe designs and how they may fit in with the aesthetic concept of the construction.
• Communicate the design of a structure through drawings, specifications and computer models so that others can construct it.
• Oversee investigation of ground conditions and review analysis of results of site tests such as soil samples.
• Act as a liaison with other external consultants and contractors.
• Troubleshoot and solve engineering concerns.
• Act as a technical supervisor for solving engineering problems.
• Review completed designs and manuals prior to implementing.
• Coordinate organize and review specifications for projects.
• Approve engineering drawings.
• Perform failure analysis and testing on existing and new engineering installations.
• Check parts drawings, assembly drawings and other drawings for buildability and cost effectiveness of designs.
• Proof-read drawings and ensure that design drawings comply with critical dimensions and tolerances and the bill of Materials is accurate.
• Ensure the confidentiality of all proprietary information in any/all forms as it relates to the business, projects and developments and sign legal agreement for same.
• Establish, review and ensure compliance with policies and procedures to deliver all projects in accordance with Codes of Practice for the Building and Construction Industry, Company policies and procedures and relevant government policies and procedures to achieve construction industry best practice.
• Develop effective monitoring and reporting systems to provide to Project Manager, continuous expert advice at both the project and program level and key factors affecting satisfactory delivery of projects and service provision.

• Understanding of regulatory requirements; tendering procedures; project programming; and major contracts administration.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills, including coordination, liaison, and multicultural communication and ability to liaise with external consultants, contractors and public authorities.
• Experience with client-oriented organisations.
• Knowledge and commitment to continuous improvement principles.
